Diary Entry: Napa
August 6th, 1945, I do not know the time, but I do know that it is perhaps late morning, or early, or mid afternoon. To be perfectly honest though, time seems of little importance right now. Because even if it was late morning or mid afternoon, or even when the shade of night falls upon my town of Hiroshima, it cannot erase what just happened. It cannot bring back the dead. The horrible white flash, I am afraid, is irreversible. I can only describe the assault as a horrible white flash. It came in the blink of an eye and disappeared in the next, as if it never really appeared. But the damages it has left is more than enough evidence. In my entire life, my entire career of being a doctor, I have never seen so much death and suffering. When the white flash came, I was on the front porch of my home, which is now gone - as if it were dust. The white flash propelled me forward, and I did not even have the time to consider perhaps I was dying, by the time I realized that I was still alive. All I felt was hitting the water. By the time I came to, I was stuck between two pieces of wood, painfully squeezing my chest, and barely had the time to consider I could drown. Thankfully, I managed to free myself and escaped with my underwear. On Kyo bridge, I met my friend Dr. Machii. He told me that he thought the white flash must’ve been caused from the Molotoffano hanakago - Molotov flower baskets, a scattering of bombs. But I do not think that horrendous flash came from an ordinary flower basket. Those, we have experienced. This flash, the destruction...it was unforeseen..incomprehensible.

Sakura Endures
A Pond teems with life ready for all. Sunbeams distorted on the ground By the Rustle Bustle of Feet on dirt. They shudder as the Breeze flows The koi Fish swim calmly in tandem While field Mice search for a meal. Birds fly returning to their nests Startled A foreign Pebble falls with ferocity Purpose unknown, intent clear. - Flash - Bang - Water splashes Everywhere. Except on Sakura With dirty Blossoms of purity. A barren Branch falls but Sakura Endures by Eddie |
